In the article, the Cahill suggested that the two performance region compromise when an individual uses a public restroom to defecate, they need to disarrange themselves; and compromises to maintain cleanliness and privacy. According to the author, in order to maintain cleanliness standards, individuals engage in certain activities and limited performances, making it difficult for them to act in an unexpected interactive manner (Cahill et al., 1985). As a result, when participating in toilet activities, people tend to avoid engagement in the same way that they do in social situations.
